Since the summer is the peak season for lightning activity and, therefore, lightning injuries and deaths, is more appropriately the 20 day-June 26 was coined "Lightning Safety Week".
The goal of Lightning Safety Week is to educate people, young and old, about the dangers of lightning and how to stay safe when lightning is present while Ray is more prevalent during the summer months, it attacks throughout the year and accounted for 34 deaths in 2009.
